Art and creativity have always been an important part of my life and photography has been my passion for 30 years. As a young MBA student at the University of St.Gallen, I dedicated my spare time designing modern carpets which were hand knit in India and Nepal and marketed in Switzerland. Later I designed furniture. In my 20’s I worked closely with a professional press photographer for several years. This is where I learned the necessary skills and techniques of photography. At 25 I photographed Mongolia extensively while travelling with the Swiss Consul and was then invited to present these at various events to promote relationships between our two countries.
In the last few years I've continued to developed my artistic expression in photography. Today my focus is less on documentary outdoor photography and I spend more time in my photo studio.
My core motivation as a photographer is to point out the beauty of nature, which has always fascinated me. I take particular joy in revealing the hidden beauty of an unremarkeable object, such as a beetroot, that we know from everyday life – but usually overlook. I put objects into an completely new context to make them a shine bright for an instant, taking them out of ordinary life.
I create a surprise effect from an unexpected perspective, or tell a story with a unique light effect or shadow throw. For example, illuminating my fruit and vegetable pictures from behind - by counterbalancing the light from four flash units. Some productions, e.g. the pairs of floating feathers, give the impression that the pictured objects would have something like an own personality, and stood in some sort of relation with each other. These images thus become projection screens of our human thoughts and feelings.
Harmonic proportions and image divisions are important to me as well as color harmonies and contrasts. I find the inspiration for this not only in nature, but also in my many years of work with art and design. I am particularly fond of the Chinese and Japanese forms.
I go my own way with my photographic work. My pictures do not want to provoke or attract attention at any cost. I am more a friend of the soft tones.
I wish you much pleasure in browsing my gallery.
